ChicoSkyWatch.org • CSW Alert #24 • Monday, June 9, 2014 |
Next Meeting is Tuesday, June 10 at 6:30 pm Chico Sky Watch is always on the look-out for ways to bring higher awareness of the aerosol spray programs to our community. To this end we have been working with the CSUC Peace Institute to bring Dane Wigington here to speak on the subject. Their docket is filled until Spring of 2015 which is quite a long wait. In the meantime we are in discussion with GRUB, a local food growing group, to arrange a speaking engagement sooner, focused on the effects of SSAGtrail spraying on local gardens, gardening and plant-based food production. The Peace Institute event will be a more expansive presentation. We feel our local gardeners have a particular need to understand how aerosol spray toxins are accumulating in our soil and water, affecting productivity and quality. Prior to Dane's presentation we are conducting an informal survey with people who either have a backyard garden or grow produce as a business. If you know anyone who might participate, here are the questions:
• How long have you been gardening?
At our meeting this Tuesday we will show two short videos on this subject. One of Francis Mangels, a soils biologist with a PhD who worked many years in the Forest Service and now lives in the Mt. Shasta area. The second video is with Allan Buckmann, another biologist from Lake County. They elaborate on the harmful effects aerosol spraying is having. Please invite everyone you know who gardens.
